The HEARTGARD® Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel) team and Warrior Canine Connection® (WCC) are joining forces to help bring the healing power of dogs to Service Members, Veterans and their families.
Three years ago, I hadn't been lucky enough to know the friendship of a dog. We didn't have pets when I was growing up in my house. It wasn't until the day we found a little dog living in an empty field that I learned what it was to have that friendship I had always heard of. We've had Rocky a little over three years now (he’s pictured below in our backyard, loving life!) and it's true that dogs are not just pets for the family, they change us to be better versions of ourselves. They're always right there next to you, letting you know that you're not alone. I know I can be at my desk late at night and Rocky will be at my feet or I can head out for a 4:00 AM drop off and she is in the seat next to me. She is my constant companion and great friend.

Having lived the life of a military family and having seen how deployments affect our servicemen and women first hand, I can understand why dogs are a great match for helping to heal the servicemen and families who need them.

Dogs are amazing healers and they are incredibly supportive of their owners and human friends. WCC offers canine-assisted therapy to Service Members and Veterans affected by the invisible wounds of war. The HEARTGARD® Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel) team us helping WCC continue its mission of helping U.S. Service Members and Veterans reconnect with life, their families, their communities and each other through the healing power of the human-animal bond.
Until June 30, the HEARTGARD Plus team is accepting nominations of Service Members or Veterans. One winner will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Nashville and a year’s supply of HEARTGARD Plus for their dog.
Veterans can be nominated on heartgardians.com or via Twitter® or Instagram® by using the hashtags #NominateAVeteran and #Sweepstakes. For every nomination, the HEARTGARD Plus team will donate $10 to Warrior Canine Connection. The HEARTGARD Plus team will contribute up to $100,000 to Warrior Canine Connection in 2017.

I will be nominating my nephew, Jorge Lorenzo, who has been in the Marine Corps since he turned 18. In the 10 years since joining the Marine Corps, he has been on deployment more times than any other career military personnel in our family. For someone so young, he’s already done so much for our country and will continue to do so until his retirement.

Not all heroes wear capes – a lot of them wear military uniforms – and Jorge is a real example of an American Hero.

Who will you nominate for the sweepstakes?
