AT&T Delivers Holiday Cheer

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with AT&T and Latina Bloggers Connect. However, all opinions are my own.

Did you know?
The three biggest threats of aging Americans are: hunger, isolation and loss of independence.

The holiday season is supposed to be a time for spending with family, eating great food and making new memories. But it's not like that for many people, especially for millions of older adults in the United States.

It's very difficult to think of anyone being alone and hungry anytime of the year, but especially during the holiday season. This month AT&T worked with local nonprofits to surprise seniors with smart devices they can use to stay connected - and spread a little holiday cheer.

Through its digital literacy initiative Digital You, AT&T is providing online tools, apps and resources for people of all ages to learn how to have a safe and secure online experience. This support is especially valuable to older adults who might have a harder time grasping technology. In 2014, 77% said they need help to walk through the process of using a new tech device such as a smartphone or tablet and this is where that support is invaluable.

Having technology at their hands, these older adults can now stay in touch with family members through phone calls and of course, social media. I know that my family members from Mexico and all of the United States stay in touch more through social media than any other way. Now our older generations can get the help they need so that they too can be part of the online world that keeps the rest of us connected. If you have a family member or loved one just getting into technology, let them know about Digital You where they can get support for using their new smartphone or tablet. Help is available in Spanish too!
