The craziness of this season can leave many of us feeling completely overwhelmed. With so many events, activities and holiday planning on our hands, on top of our already full schedules, it can lead to a mini-meltdown. Meltdowns are when everything piles on top of each other and one day you simply can not handle it anymore and you either have to take a rest or can even become ill.

As women we can really run ourselves ragged, piling way too much on our plate and not giving ourselves enough of a break. No one wants to feel ill either physically or mentally during the holidays so today I want to share a few small ways that you can take care of yourself so you can be healthier. Small steps like walking, resting more and changing up your toothpaste to Colgate Total® Daily Repair™ toothpaste, can make a big difference.

Small Steps To a Healthier You

A walk is a great way to clear the fall blues from your mind. The time change has really done a number on my system and I find myself feeling really down and tired at five. One way to combat that down feeling and feel better is to get more active. In the mornings we have been walking the kids to class versus driving and in the evenings we can take a walk together as a family. Once I get back home, I find I feel more invigorated and full of energy and not ready to go straight to bed like I usually do.

Something else that is easy to do is make smarter choices when it comes to eating and drinking. I am not a dieter, dieting is something that never works for me because I can't cut out things that I enjoy. Instead I cut back and try to balance things out better. If I am having a calorie loaded coffee in the morning I have to add more water to the rest of my day. Or maybe I will skip that 9:00pm snack that Adrian and I usually share right before bed and have an extra yogurt the next day. When I make smarter choices like this, I can literally tell my body feels less weighed down.

Getting some extra downtime is also important. I am the lady that wakes at 5am to do the first drop offs and is getting to bed past midnight. By the end of the week I look like a zombie. That is not healthy at all and I know that my system is not getting enough rest. Since the time change we have been getting at least one hour of extra sleep, even if I still have things to do. It's better to get some rest and wake up fresh and ready to go than to tire out our bodies to the point they want to give out. Give yourself some extra downtime and you will see how much better you start to feel.

Taking care of your oral health. I have always suffered from oral care issues and feel I am constantly trying to keep my teeth strong and healthy. I have switched to the new Colgate Total® Daily Repair™ toothpaste which helps reverse early tooth and gum damage for Better Oral Health, remineralizing weakened enamel and helping to prevent gingivitis. Not only does Colgate Total® Daily Repair™ help prevent gingivitis and cavities, it whitens teeth and gives you fresh breath. Switching out my old toothpaste for Colgate Total® Daily Repair™ has been a small step that's made a big difference.

I am one of those people that doesn't do drastic changes in lifestyle, but I know that I want to be healthier and just feel better. That's why I am making small changes in my life so that I can be a healthier version of me. This holiday season I want to be there for all of the parades, the shopping and events with the kids and I know that I need to care for me so I can feel in tip top shape to face everything that is coming.

What small steps have you taken to be a healthier you?
