First Impression : $20+ Mystery Bag #ELF Cosmetics - Sammy Makes Six

First Impression : $20+ Mystery Bag #ELF Cosmetics

Okay, so last week E.L.F. ( had a special running that caught my attention. It was purchase $25 worth of products and you would get a surprise $20 bag of goodies free. This was only the second ELF order I have ever placed, but since I needed my favorite mascara, I decided to let the girls pick some stuff and see what this freebie would be. I love it when companies have fun promotions like this. I got hooked on the ELF Mineral Infused Mascara last year when one of my favorite bloggers recommended it, and I ended up being really pleased with most of the stuff I ordered that time. Their gel liner is my 2nd favorite liner, so I was not afraid to give some of their new products a chance, especially after doing plenty of research via YouTube and finding so many positive reviews.

I placed the order last Wednesday night just as the promotion was ending and it arrived one day earlier than scheduled, this Wednesday. This is what the free goodie bag consisted of, all new items to me besides the  hypershine gloss, which I already own two of. To me the selection is pretty great because it's giving me a chance to try some of the products I might never have picked out myself. I was also super glad they threw in FOUR of the Studio Line products, which is their nicer line in my  opinion.

This is only my first impressions of the products,
I will of course have to use them for a while to really get the feel of them.

        Total  : $22

Studio Lotion Wipes in Vanilla Sugar Cookie

These wipes have a nice and not too overpowering scent, a little bit sweet and are very moist. I was surprised at how big each wipe is, and how much of your face and neck you can get with even half which is what I used because it was so large. The packet contains 15 sheets and I did try these after my shower today. So far, I LIKE THEM A LOT, because I usually don't moisturize after a shower and my face tends to feel really dry and sometimes itchy. Not today, in fact when I touch my skin it feels soft, moist and I can actually feel product on it even six hours later. These are keepers for me for sure, I will  use them all month and see if they can really keep my skin moisturized. I know they might not be enough for my 39 year old skin, but sometimes I am so lazy, that just being able to wipe these on and sleep or pass the day, would be super convenient. I also used them to wipe the swatches off my arm and they worked perfectly, so if I can use them to remove makeup and moisturize on those lazy days, it would be wonderful.

Something else exciting about these is they offer them in 7 scents , including Cucumber Melon and Sweet Mango, which sound divine!

3-pack of Essential Small Hand Sanitizer in Aloe and Vitamin E $3.00

I am a sanitizer fanatic, but I would never buy these simply because they are teeny-tiny. But they are cute and at a dollar a piece I guess not a bad deal? Neither of the scents wowed me though and considering these are half the size of a PocketBac from Bath & Body Works, plus they don't smell as wonderful as the Bacs, then I would say skip them. I buy the bacs for Sammy and for twice the amount for the same price I will stick with those.

Essential Glitter Eyeshadow in Night Owl $2.00

I love glitter shadows though I don't use them. From the color choices this shadow is available in, this is the one I would have definitely picked. It is pretty pigmented and you do get a lot of that glitter in each swipe. This one I will pass to the girls, I am sure they can get a lot of use from it when they go out.

Studio Glitter Gloss in Golden Glitz 3.00

I love the packaging of this gloss, it comes in the black Studio box and the actual gloss looks really sexy and more high end. I also love the color, it is so glittery and reminded me of a night in Vegas. While I am not a gold girl myself, we tried this on Sam and I swatched it below and it is very glittery and really stands out. This will be great alone or on top of another color, and definitely an eye catcher. I passed this on to Nessa who is a gold lover.

Essential Hypershine Gloss in Blossom

I already love these because I ordered two last year, both which are now in Sammy's backpack for some reason. But I really like the brush applicator, which is the same look as some Stila glosses that I have and for a dollar you really can't beat this. These come in 8 colors and I would definitely get a few more. They are the perfect gloss to carry in each purse you have, and if you by chance happen to lose one, no big deal.

Essential Lip Stain in Crimson Crush

I am mixed about this one. When I first saw it I was excited because I am a red lover and because when you hear stain, you think staying power. And don't get me wrong, as you can see below, there is plenty of staying power. My problem is that it looks so dry and it is also hard to apply. Even though the tip is good the product does not go on evenly. Yesterday Vane put it on and she got some dark areas and some light ones and you could see lines. In my swatch I tried to apply carefully and a little more evenly. The overall problem is that it looks really dull, I will have to try the recommendations I saw on the site of adding a lip balm or even a clear gloss. However on the plus, this is my arm after I wiped all the swatches off, as you can see, there is staying power for sure.

It is now almost 11 and it is still on. It will probably still be on next week.

This would have worked better in natural light but it was such gloomy day I had to use flash which had a hard time picking up the glitter from the shadow. It has a lot more than you can see here, everything else looks pretty much the same as in person.

Essential Nourishing Cuticle Pen $1.00

This one is kind of neat, I don't know if I would have ever purchased it but I like the idea of it. I don't take care of my cuticles but it is something I probably should do and this allows you to do it super fast and mess free. I put some on today and will keep doing so to see if I can spot a marked difference. With Avocado and Almond Oils, I imagine there will have to be a positive change, I only worry about how quickly the pen will dry out. But then again, you get what you pay for and this is only a buck, but we shall see.

Studio Makeup Remover Pen $3.00

Another interesting item that I probably would have wondered about but never ordered. If I can get around the fact that the applicator is bound to get very messy, then I will probably enjoy this a lot. Not a day goes by that I don't struggle with my gel liner and my mascara getting on my lids or under my eyes, this pen should make it a breeze to clean that and more up. There is great reviews on the site for this item stating it takes off even the most stubborn eye makeup. So what I did was run it once over the eyeshadow in my swatch (above), all I had to do then was wipe it with a tissue. I think this will be getting a lot of use and I hope that the extra enclosure on the cap will keep it from drying. As you can see the one dollar cuticle pen does not have the same lid.

Essential Defining Eye Brush

This item didn't hold much excitement for me since I don't really do shadows, but it is a nice new brush that is angled. I will save it for any brush emergencies my daughter's may have. I find that I am always replacing brushes for them, so this will def get used.

The last item was the body shimmer which I didn't realize I had not swatched till I started posting this. I will have to get back to you on that, or better yet will pass it to Sierra who will be doing a thorough review of many of the items that came in the actual order, on her blog.

Overall I think this was a great mystery bag and I am really looking forward to using the products longer and seeing the results. I really love how affordable E.L.F. is and the quality of the items always blows me away. I was once a snooty high end cosmetics only woman, so I know what I am talking about. I will update with my results on these in a few weeks.

Do you have a favorite ELF product or are you high end makeup only?
