The Kildonan School - Sammy Makes Six

The Kildonan School

School can be hard. It’s even harder though, when your child is facing major learning disadvantages like dyslexia and language-based learning differences. Whether your child is facing elementary, middle, or high schools dyslexia, the stress from not performing as well as non-dyslexic students can take its toll and cause your child unneeded stress and low self-esteem. That’s why The Kildonan School, a school for students grades 2-12 is such a great tool in helping your students get the extra attention and help they may not be getting in regular schools.  At The Kildonan School your student can get help one-on-one in several areas of curriculum and they’ll be in much smaller classes as well. So now even in groups they’ll still be guaranteed more time for the teacher to help them individually. But wait! What if this is the exact program you think your child may need but you live nowhere near it? What do you do then?

Students between grades 7 and 12 can be boarded for the 5 days or 7 days. 5 day boarders typically have families within driving distance, while 7 day boarders may be a bit further away from their families. That doesn’t mean they don’t get any downtime though, on weekends a variety of off-campus activities are available for the children to attend even on-campus activities as well. Day students get the full daily school life as well and provide their own transportation to and from school. Upper school day students do get to participate with their friends in off-campus activities as long as their participation on The Effort System (a system allowing students to gain independence and privileges based on their effort and behavior) is up to standards. Already you can tell that while the want their students to be able to have fun with friends like at regular schools, school work will always remain top priority.

Did we mention that their education doesn’t have to end at the end of the school year either?! Camp Dunnabeck at Kildonan is a six-week long academic program meant to help improve reading, writing, and spelling for kids between 8 and 16 years old.

So if your child is struggling with dyslexia or language-based learning differences, consider looking into The Kildonan School, they’ve been helping students out since 1969!
