Did you know that over 5 million families in the US don't know where their next meal will come from? Spring brings with it, a very large decrease in food donations to food banks around the country and with the unemployment rates so high, many families will have to go without or with very little food.

Walmart is doing their part to feed needy families across the county. They have partnered up with Feeding America and the four most recognizable food brands in the US- ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogs in a nationwide Fighting Hunger Initiative. Starting on Monday April 9th through April 30, you as a consumer can help them fight hunger.

How It Works:

Certain communities are hit harder by unemployment. A report determined by the Department of Labor shows us the 200 communities with the highest unemployment rate. From April 9th to the 30th you can go on Facebook to vote for which community you would like to receive aid. Walmart will be donating $2 million to the 21 communities that receive the most support. The winner will get $1 million and 20 runners-up will each get $50,000. The winning communities will be announced May 1st.

I was surprised to see how many California towns are on this report. I wasn't too surprised to see that our county is also on this list with a 14.5 unemployment rate. Living here I see how many people are out of work and struggling. I will definitely be showing my support for my county as well as El Centro, Ca which has an amazingly high unemployment rate of 29.7.
