An Ode To The Commode and Tips For Getting Kids To Take A Bath #CloroxLounge

The bathroom is the second busiest room in the house, and for moms it's a place that serves different needs. One one hand the bathroom is the place where we can escape for just a few minutes to take that badly needed hot shower and get at least 5 minutes of me-time. If you're lucky and have more time for an actual bath with warm water, scented bath salts and some candle light, the bathroom can be an oasis. But on the other hand, the bathroom is also the place where the daily bath, potty time and oral care fights are fought. This is the room where moms take a stand against dirty hands, bodies and teeth.

I've been fighting this fight for over 22 years now and getting kids to take a shower and brush their teeth at least once a day has always been one of the hardest things to do. I've tried everything from bribing with money, toys, candy, and outings to threatening to take all those things and more away. Depending on the child or teenager, certain things will work. These are the things that have worked for me as mom of 5 and now grandmother too.

Relax- Angel who is my grandson and very hardheaded HATES to shower. It is always a battle to get him in there so the first thing you have to do is RELAX and don't make it a fight from the get-go. We usually tell him ten minutes in advance that it's bath time and that he can grab a few toys if he wants. He will immediately say no and begin to give the many excuses as to why he doesn't need to shower that day but that's when we really need to stay firm and not waver. There have been many times his mom lets him put the bath time off a few minutes, which turns into hours and before you know it he is asleep. This means he has to be woken up early to be showered before school and it throws the whole morning routine off so it can not happen. Once there he is at least comforted with my next tip, buy bath time products that the kids will like. Our bathroom is filled with all kids of bath time goodies that help kids want to shower. We have soap body paints, a variety of shampoos and conditioners featuring all their favorite tv characters, body washing mitts shaped like animals and scrubbers with disney princesses. You name it, we have it. This is one of the tricks that has worked the best through the years even with my girls- make it fun! You will spend a little bit extra buying the kids their own products, especially if you have a lot of kids. But I have always found that having all those little extra products makes the whole bath and oral care routine more fun for them and getting them in and out daily is not as hard on me.
