Update on Darlene ~! - Sammy Makes Six

Update on Darlene ~!

Hello everyone, Darlenes surgery went very well. It ended up taking them over 7 hours and by then we were pretty freaked out. She had lost more blood than they had expected her to and she had to have a transfusion so Monday night she recovered in the ICU.  By the time we took these shots on Tuesday she was transferred to a regular room. She was is so much pain right before the pictures but then she was given morphine and then came the highlight of her day, for the transfer they let us move her on this wagon. We got to walk around the corridor with her showing her all the pictures on the wall and right after she had a bit of her lunch.  Poor little kid was so bloated from uncomfortable on the bed but she loved the wagon. I am going to try to get her one for her 3 months of recuperation so she can be moved around.

Her pink cast goes from her waist almost to her ankle on her bad side(right) and right above the knee on her left. There is a metal rod in the middle to keep everything in it's place and there is a whole in her diaper area so we can change her, and we can NOT let her cast get wet.

Last night as I was finally relaxing and getting ready to wok on here we got the call that she was ready to leave the hospital! Yikes really?? Seemed very rushed to us to tell you the truth, but you know how it goes with the insurance companies, they only want to pay for minimal days in a hospital, so she is home. They lent us a very wide car seat, prescribed Tylenol for the pain and sent us off on our merry way with instructions to be back next week for a check up. Jack has lent her the use of her room for the duration of her recuperation and she spend a comfortable as can be night. We are happy to have her home and we want to thank everyone for their very kind comments. Thank you for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers!

I'm so glad to hear her surgery went well, except for the scare with the blood loss, and that she's home recuperating. Sending lots of good thoughts for a speedy and easy recovery her way!

A wagon or a wheelchair would help you ALOT during the next few months. My nephew broke his leg when he was about 4 and had a cast similar to this, unbroke leg to knee, broke leg all the way down, up to his litte chest. My sister and I built up alot of muscle moving him around that summer. He really liked being set in a wheel chair and being able to go outside, even if he couldn't do much. Insurance should cover the expense, just get her doctor to order it. So glad Darlene is home and doing well.

I am glad that the surgery is over and she is home. I feel for her having to be in that cast. I hope it goes by fast and she feels good as new.

Glad to see that she is recuperating. They had a radio flyer wagon at the hospital where my son had his foot surgery as well and he loved it....it took his mind off of the pain he was in even if it was just for a moment. Sorry to hear about the blood transfusion...how scarry! My thoughts and prayrs are with you and your family!

I hope your beautiful girl is feeling better. Glad that the wagon cheered her up ~ kids are amazing. My daughter had the same type of cast when she was two after breaking her femur while playing with a hula hoop. It was a long 2 months for us, but one thing she loved was having a balloon tied to the bar when we went out.

Lots of love and healing to Darlene!
